Why is it that some people prefer ONLY having friends who are "intellectual" and "intelligent"?

I would think that people who prefer only intellectuals as friends, is because they feel so darn stupid and need friends who are intellectuals to create a balance. However, that is just a speculation. It could also be, that they want to have friends that are intellectuals, so they can keep the false facade up, that they are also an intellectual. IOW, " look everyone, my friends are all intellectuals, therefore, I must also be", even though he and his friends could be complete idiots. Don't worry, I can ure you, one day, they will realize they don't know anything. When one realizes, that all one can know, is that we don't know, we stop worrying about all that stuff.
